West Central Boulevard Signal Design and Permit Exemption

Project Description

AVCON was retained to prepare construction plans for replacement of an existing signal at the intersection of Central Boulevard and Terry Avenue in downtown Orlando. The new mast arm signal poles replace existing concrete strain poles and a diagonal signal span as a part of streetscape project at the intersection. A new signal controller, pull boxes, conduit, video detectors, pedestrian signals, transit signals and all associated equipment were included in the design. The traffic signal also required design of fiber optic lines and communication systems to tie-in to the City of Orlando’s signalization network.

Project Highlights

  • The traffic signal was designed to meet MUTCD, FDOT and City of Orlando design standards.
  • Synchro software was used to determine levels-of-service (LOS) and proposed signal timings.
